What are planets?
|
Planets are worlds that orbit the Sun. The word 'planet' comes from a Greek word meaning wanderer, because of the strange wandering paths they appear to have when seen from Earth. There are nine planets. Mercury is the closest to the Sun, then Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.
