Sacred Tooth of Buddha
The 'Perahera' (great procession) in the town of Kandy, Sri Lanka, is held at full moon in the summer month of Esala. Like the followers of other religions, Buddhists on Sri Lanka honour holy relics, or remains. This torchlight procession honours the Buddha's Sacred Tooth, which is kept in a shrine at the Dalada Maligawa temple. The Esala Perahera has dancing, music, and elephants.
