Succot
After fleeing Egypt, the Jewish people spent many years wandering in the desert, searching for lands in which they could settle. In the autumn festival of Succot, little shacks ('succots') made of branches and leaves are put up outdoors to remind Jews of the tents they lived in after their flight from captivity.
