Children enjoy fancy-dress parades, carnivals, and noisy parties at Purim. This festival of springtime fun, held in March or April, reminds children how, long ago, a wicked man called Haman plotted against Jewish people living in Persia. They were saved by Queen Esther, a Jewish woman who was married to the Persian king. When the ancient story is read at Purim, everybody boos the evil Haman!
