One Special Day
|
Most festivals are held over and over again, once a year or perhaps just once every ten years. But some festivals take place only once. They may commemorate an anniversary, such as 500 years since the founding of a particular city, or some great event in history. Spectacular ceremonies may be held at the coronation of a king or queen or when someone becomes president. Special postage stamps are often issued to commemorate events that fall outside the normal calendar of festivals.
A new century is always marked by public celebrations. And the start of a new millennium (1000 years), deserves a very special festival. The next will be celebrated in the year 3000!
