Australian Bicentennial
|
Although Aboriginal people have lived in Australia for tens of thousands of years, the first Europeans settled on the continent in 1788. The 200th anniversary was celebrated on January 26, 1988. The skyline of Sydney was lit with fireworks and thousands of boats sailed into Sydney Harbour to join in the fun. Parties, concerts, and sporting events were held to remind people of this important date. | A hot air balloon celebrating Australia day |
