Bonfire Night
|
In this old rhyme: 'Remember, remember the fifth of November - Gunpowder, Treason and Plot', British children commemorate the date in 1605 when a man named Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the King and parliament with gunpowder. He failed, and was hanged for treason. Every year children collect money to make a 'guy' - a model of Guy Fawkes made from stuffed clothes and a mask. The guy is burned on a big bonfire. People hold fireworks parties and eat baked potatoes and sweets. | A Bonfire Night celebration |
