Flashy Bokassa

In 1977, Jean Bedel Bokassa crowned himself Emperor Bokassa I of the Central African Empire. The ceremony, which cost about $200 million, bankrupted the country's economy. He was eventually deposed and sentenced to life imprisonment for murder.
