Abu Simbel
The Great Temple of the Sun God was built into the rock at Abu Simbel, in Nubia. At the entrance stood four huge statues of its builder, Ramses II. In the 1960s, the whole building had to be moved to a higher place, above the level of the lake made by a new dam at Aswan.
