The bowl of the spoon will be the head of the puppet. Paint the head of the wooden spoon. What colour head does the puppet have? It could be any colour!

Then stand the spoon upright in a jam jar while the paint dries.

Next, paint the handle of the spoon in a different colour and again leave it to dry.
