Ancient Greek ideas about theatres and performance can still be seen in our culture today. Another way they told stories was by putting pictures on pots. They were like small comic strips that would tell part of a story. This way, stories could be handed down from family to family.

City of Troy
For a long time, people thought that the story of Troy was untrue and that the city never really existed. In the late 1800s a German explorer named Heinrich Schliemann discovered the ruins of Troy in modern day Turkey. In fact, he found that the city had been destroyed and rebuilt nine times in four thousand years. Whether the city was destroyed by earthquake, war or fire, the survivors just built on top of the wreckage! The city was built in an area with two seas either side of it, which would have been a very powerful position in the days when all trade was done by ship.
