The Olympic Games take place every four years in a different country. Can you remember when the last one was and where it was held?

It was actually in 2000 in Sydney, Australia. The next one will be in 2004 and is going to be held in Athens, Greece.

Did you know that an Olympic Flame is lit by the torch-bearer at the beginning of the games and put out at the end?

There will be athletes from nearly 200 countries taking part in the next Olympic Games in 2004.

There are now 28 sports in the Olympics.

It is expected that around 11,000 men and women, plus 5,000 trainers and support people will take part in the Olympic Games in 2004!

Two weeks after the Olympic Games there is a second major competition called the Paralympic Games, where the best athletes with disabilities can compete.

The first Paralympic Games was held in 1948.

The name 'Paralympics' comes from the words 'Parallel' and 'Olympics'.

As well as the summer Olympic Games, there is also a winter Olympics, which includes ice hockey, skiing, skating and many more winter sports.

The record for the most gold medals awarded in one Olympic Games went to American swimmer Mark Spitz in 1972. He won SEVEN gold medals!
