Stromness - Ferry port:
To understand the importance of ferries as a method of transport for island groups.
To understand that industries may decline and new one develop.
Stromness is the second largest town in the Orkney Islands. It is situated on the east side of 'The Mainland' which is the largest island within the group. We take a trip to Stromness and talk to Kevin Manson who was until recently the captain on the main ferry Hamnavoe which runs between Stromness and Scrabster on mainland Scotland. He tells us why the ferry system is so important to the people of Orkney.
