Vitamins and Minerals

Vitamins and minerals all help many different parts of the body. They are found in many different types of food, so you need to eat a balanced diet to make sure you get all the vitamins and minerals you need. Fresh fruit and vegetables contain lots of minerals, and should make up about a third of all the food you eat. Some of the most important vitamins and minerals are:

Vitamin A - Helps the body grow and repair itself and keeps your skin healthy. Found in butter, eggs and carrots.

Vitamin B - Promotes general good health and maintains good vision, skin, nails and hair. Eaten in milk, cheese eggs, meat and vegetables.

Vitamin C - It is essential for healthy teeth, gums and bones and helps prevent the common cold. Found in oranges, tomatoes and peppers.

Vitamin D - Helps your bones and teeth growth and helps keep a healthy heart. Found in fish, eggs, nuts and vegetables.

Vitamin E - Good for healthy skin, heart and blood. Eaten in cereals and nuts.

Calcium - Maintains strong teeth and bones. Found in milk, cheese and bread.

Iron - Keeps your blood healthy. Contained in red meat and some fish.
