Welcome to BrainBox, and to the Vikings. The Vikings were people from Scandinavia - Norway, Sweden and Denmark. They were farmers, fishermen and great sailors, who travelled the world in sturdy wooden ships. They were also fierce fighters, and raided and conquered much of Britain between AD 787 and AD 1066. Scandinavia was a difficult place to live, full of forests and mountains with freezing cold winters. There wasn't enough good land for everyone. This caused many Vikings to set sail west from Scandinavia looking for land to settle on, people to trade with or places to rob. They even travelled as far as America! By travelling and raiding, Vikings could get rich quickly and settle down with their families in other countries.
