James VI - as king of England:

James VI (1566-1625) was crowned King of Scotland at the age of 13 months following the forced abdication of his mother Mary Queen of Scots. He inherited the throne of England in 1603 on the death of Elizabeth I. Although Queen Elizabeth imprisoned and finally executed his mother, James Vl did everything he could to stay friends with the English Queen. Historian Louise Yeoman explores this strange relationship and tells how James came to be King of England.
