New Lanark - school & home life:
In 1800 Robert Owen married David Dale's daughter and became mill manager and part owner of New Lanark Mills. He introduced a series of radical changes - phasing out the use of child labour, providing housing for workers, schooling for the children and health care. At the restored New Lanark Mills site, we experience an early 19th century school lesson. We also visit the cottages built especially for the mill's workers. They look small and crowded to us but were revolutionary for the time.
