An encounter with William Wallace:
Scotland had effectively been under English rule since 1296, when King Edward 1 of England invaded Scotland and forced the Scottish King, John Balliol, to abdicate. Many Scots rebelled against the English, leading to the War of Independence. William Wallace was the main Scottish rebel leader from 1297 to 1305. Archaeologist Tony Pollard – from BBC2's 'Two Men in a Trench' - bumps into William Wallace who explains medieval combat techniques to him. Wallace encourages Tony to take him on in a sword fight and then explains how he would kill him!
