The House of Saxe-Coburg Gotha
|
 | St. Edward's crown | Victoria came to the throne on the death of her uncle, William IV, in 1837. She married Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg Gotha and reigned for 63 years. Her eldest son, Edward VII, 'The Peacemaker', helped to put off war in Europe. By the time he died, in 1910, there was a lot of anti-German feeling in Britain, so the Royal adopted the name of Windsor.
