The House of Lancaster
|
In 1399, Henry IV, son of John of Gaunt, seized the throne from Richard II. His reign was overshadowed by the murder of Richard. Henry V kept his nobles busy with wars in France, but under Henry VI they took sides again, fighting under the red rose of Lancaster or the white rose of York in the Wars of the Roses. Henry VI finally lost power in 1461. | The coat of arms of Henry IV |
