The Tudors
Henry Tudor claimed the throne in 1485, having defeated Richard III at Bosworth. The Wars of the Roses were over. Henry was crowned as Henry VII, and married Edward IV's daughter Elizabeth. The badges of the houses of York and Lancaster united in the Tudor rose. Henry VIII married six times but left only one son, Edward VI, who died young. Henry's daughter Mary I married Philip of Spain, the lifelong enemy of her sister, Elizabeth I. Elizabeth died childless in 1603, leaving the English crown to the son of Mary, Queen of Scots, the cousin she had executed.
