Edward was a fighting king. His armies won many battles against the Scots and the French. He founded the Order of the Garter, which still survives today. He ruled for 50 years, from 1327 to 1377. His son Edward, known as 'the Black Prince' for his cruelty in battle, died before reaching the throne.
