Elizabeth I
Elizabeth came to the throne in 1558. She was a great queen, celebrated by poets. Her sailors fought off Philip of Spain's invasion fleet, called the Armada, and discovered new lands. Elizabeth had a long and successful reign, until her death in 1603.
