Henry came to power in 1509. He was a brilliant young king, but later turned tyrannical. He married six times. While divorcing his first wife, Katherine of Aragon, he argued with the Pope and made himself Head of the new Church of England. Henry also divorced his fourth wife, Anne of Cleves. He had his second wife, Anne Boleyn, and his fifth wife, Catherine Howard, beheaded. His third wife, Jane Seymour, died soon after bearing Henry a son. His last wife, Catherine Parr, managed to survive him. Henry died in 1547.
